Anti-Oppressive Work for White Folx
Grappling with Anti-Racism: A Monthly Process Group for Healers
Monthly via Zoom - 2nd Wednesdays, 4:00-5:30 pm PST/ 7:00 - 8:30 pm EST
Cost: $45 per group
As white providers of care and healing, we have a spiritual and ethical duty to engage in anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices. Why? Because we all operate within oppressive and harmful structures that we didn’t create—like white supremacy, capitalism, and patriarchy—but that urgently need dismantling.
While these systems harm everyone, many of our clients hold identities that are directly marginalized and targeted by them, and have been for centuries.
Without actively working to heal the systems that perpetuate harm, the healing we offer will always be limited. We may even contribute to that harm without realizing it.
If you feel like you’ve already done this work, then this group is especially for you.
That’s why the group is called “Grappling.” This isn’t work you can “win” or “complete.” There is no heavyweight champion of anti-racism. Our work is to struggle and keep struggling, knowing that growth happens in the struggle—and that growth makes us safer and better providers for our BIPOC clients, customers, and patients.
If this work feels intrapersonally “easy” or you feel like you “get it”—especially if you hold marginalized identities yourself—this group is for you.
This is not a space to showcase how much you know, how much you’ve learned, or how “woke” you are. This is especially not a space for criticism, judgment, or “canceling” one another.
We will work to create a safe environment where members can share openly and honestly about their challenges with whiteness, racism, and oppression. Members are encouraged to disclose vulnerable thoughts or feelings rooted in bias, stereotypes, or even outright racism.
We want these things to be brought into the open so we can process them, uproot them, and move forward with greater spaciousness, self-awareness, and self-knowledge. By holding and processing these issues together as white folks, we reduce the risk of carrying them out into the world and causing harm to our clients.
What You Can Expect to Gain:
A deeper understanding of your relationship to whiteness, particularly your growth areas where you need to be especially mindful in your practice.
Insight into how your family of origin and intergenerational trauma contribute to your embodiment of whiteness.
A safe community of other white folks you can turn to when you make a mistake, cause harm, or need to process feelings of guilt or shame without burdening a BIPOC.
A lighter and more open heart when it comes to receiving feedback about anti-racism.
Strategies and tools to make your space safer and more inclusive for all.
What You Need to Know:
This group will operate in a therapy-style process, primarily to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the space and its participants. What happens in the group, stays in the group.
Participants are strongly encouraged to have their own mental health therapist, mentor, teacher, or support network to provide additional support between sessions. None of us can do this work alone.
What You Need to Bring:
This group will meet monthly to accommodate the busy lives of healers, who often aren't compensated when not actively providing services. Because of this, we will focus on forming and creating the space’s container in each session.
Participants must commit to being brave and vulnerable with people they don’t know well, which is a significant challenge. So please check in with yourself to ensure you’re up for it.
The group leader will provide soft structure and topics, but it’s up to the participants to bring the material. Be prepared to share your experiences, mistakes, harms, challenges in your practice, and areas you want to learn more about. You won’t be alone in your experience.
The group leader will also provide prompts before each session to serve as a starting point, but participants are encouraged to share whatever is on their hearts and minds.
